My favorite Christmas Eve Tradition is opening the one gift as well. We always do pajamas too, but we added another element. Each year the kids each get an ornament to hang on the tree. They are themed. Bekah gets a snowman, Christopher gets a Santa Claus, Porter gets a reindeer. And Chad and I get ornaments for each other that represent the year, ornaments have ranged from a baby ornament the year I had a new baby, to a fun car ornament the year we bought a new car. It is a fun little thing that at least Chad and I really love to do. My kids will get to take their themed ornaments with them when they leave and have a good head start on their own tree.
We don't have ant really good traditions yet since my daughter is just now understanding the concept of Christmas, but we do have one. Every Christmas Eve we send our Elf on the Shelf (Baby Mondo) back to the North Pole. We put him in the hallway right outside our front door with a cookie to give to Santa, assuring that Santa will want to stop by that night because the cookies are so good.
We go on a ride around town to look at lights Towards the end, I have some jingle bells that I start to ring. The kids get all excited thinking it's Santa and they start yelling that we have to get home. They are so afraid that Santa will pass up our house. It's so fun.
Growing up we would always do family activities together (i.e. watching movies and playing games) on Christmas Eve.

My favorite Christmas Eve tradition has become a yearly joke of sorts. My dad is a minister and my mom is a music director and so they are both typically busy on Christmas day with all that it entails. On Christmas Eve my mom calls all five of the kids to pick one gift to open. One gift turns into two and before you know it somehow all of the gifts have been opened. Dad ALWAYS protests and says we are only opening one gift this year. If I remember right, the last time that happened I was in 4th grade. I also enjoy scrambling and "fighting" for the best seat in the house with my four younger siblings. We "call" our seat way in advance but there is still a good wrestling match to claim the "best" seat. It usually ends up that we sit exactly where we have each year. The time spent making memories and having fun with my family is the best present I could get...better than any under the tree. But don't tell them that!
We do the Christmas Eve pajama present too:) Another tradition we started a few years back is stocking stuffer coupon books for each family member...the gift that keeps giving even after Christmas:) Thanks for the chance!

We have a few Christmas Eve traditions, and they have morphed somewhat over the years. I guess our favourite is gift opening. Because we always spend Christmas with my parents and brother and his kids, we have started opening our gifts on Christmas Eve, so we're not so rushed on Christmas Day when there are more to open over there. My kids LOVE this - and it does make the experience last just that much longer. Nothing worse than tearing into a pile of gifts and having it over in the blink of an eye!

The concept of "Santa" has always been a bit vague for my youngest, and she's terrified of him for some reason, so she's happy enough and has never questioned that our gifts from Santa are earlier in our house than anywhere else.

My favorite tradition is actually very fitting-- at night we always open our Christmas J's (as we call our Pjs)- they always match! This makes for the most adorable Christmas morning pictures!
Honestly since getting married and having our daughter our Christmas Eves have changed a lot and we don't really have a tradition...yet. I am thinking that this year will be the start of out hot chocolate and new slippers traditions. But, Tori's idea above is pretty cute.
i already bought the new jammies for everyone and we will bake one last batch of cookies for santa in our new jammies and slippers... then the kids go to bed and I will be too excited to sleep! I love it more than the kids do!
I tweeted!
Cute contest! My favorite Christmas tradition - Each year all the adult girls & their children gather together for our annual Christmas ornament craft, snack & jammie night. Our theme,
"Whatever, Martha 2009" ! =) This year there were 26 of us that gathered together at my house in our jammies to eat, laugh, eat, create, make a mess, eat, tell memories of years past &...eat. This year we had a special appearance by Santa! It is a tradition that I pray goes on for years. It's a very special time for all of us.
We love to gather around the tree, drink hot chocolate, read The Polar Express, then watch the movie with popcorn...all of this before getting the little ones off to bed for Santa. LOVE these pjs!!! :)
I tweeted...I didn't realize I had to leave another comment...duh!

Now I feel inadequate - we don't really have any Christmas Eve traditions unless you count getting on a red-eye to fly across the country with a squalling baby in your arms. We've done that a few times and will go it again this year.
our families holiday tradition is that grandma would make chocolate gravy christmas morning and we would all sit down as a family and eat it. grandma brought the recipe with her when she came from Oklahoma.
I also Twittered to my Tweeples!
We have the same tradition on Christmas Eve. I didn't realize you had foot surgery. Bad friend. I LOVE these pajamas. Wish I had one of their nightgowns when I lived in the hospital!

My family has a party every Christmas Eve. We play games and open gifts and snack on lots of goodies
Favorite Christmas Eve tradition is a tough one. Prior to marrying DH seven years ago, I would have to say it was the annual Christmas lights drive. I would put my three kids in the car and we would drive around and look at Christmas lights while listening to Christmas songs on the radio. It was something the kids looked forward to every year!

Once I married DH, we adopted his family's tradition of getting together at his mom's house for gifts and family time. It's always fun because everyone is there and the kids really enjoy the sense of family.
We bake Christmas Cookies and get to open 1 present!!
