Retro for $2

PhotobucketMe at 18 months.

You know my mom so made this dress? Likely it wasn't for me. It probably was a hand-me-down from any one of my older 4 sisters. But what really gets me is the orange shag carpet. The polyester carpet-like dress of one of those older sisters? And that SHOE! People would pay big money for those EXACT ugly shoes today, wouldn't they?
I'm not mentioning the curtains, btw. (?)

Ya think this picture dates me a little? Probably mid 1975? No don't do the math. I'm 35. Yes. It felt like a rotten age to be. But it's turned out pretty good so far. Crazy, but good.

I thought I would write up a life history...up to and including the age in that picture. (A little at a time here..don't want to bore anyone.)

I was born in a tiny town. A Napoleon Dynamite size of a town in South Eastern Idaho. There were already 5 kids in my family when I was born. My mom was only 29. My Dad was an Auto Mechanics teacher for the high school one town over. And they co-owned the local grocery store/gas station/service station. Nearly my whole extended family lived within one hour's drive from that tiny town. I had three other cousins my same age, and I'm sure by this age I had already had sleepovers at their homes.

We lived on a corner lot and our front yard was lined with a bunch of crabapple trees. I can remember being afraid of all the bees in the springtime (that memory might have come later...). And the backyard was lined with lilac bushes. And the Lilac is still one of my favorite flowers. And easily my favorite scent.

Oh? The $2 in the title? Yeah. To have a photo scanned and then loaded on a digital CD? $2.50! Sheesh. I don't make that much in a month on this blog...oh well. It's cuz I love you guys. (And I gotta figure out how to use my printer's scanner feature!)

I LINKED up at Angie's Place....Did you!

My printer has a scanner option and all I do is hit scan and it scans. It's awesome. I used to scan at Kinko's but that price tag is a killer.

I love this photo and the memories. Great post!

So cute!

$2.50 to scan a photo? Maybe I should start a business doing that...

Ha! I love the carpet. And I love those shoes. I'd totally wear them. The dress is so cute. My mom made alot of our clothes, too. That's probably how we got the sewing bug. Or gene. Or whatever.

Just look at you in all your cuteness! I think my mom made me that same dress...must have been the IT patttern in 1975!

Jon and I had that same carpet in green in our second apartment. It was HAWT.

I remember wearing clothes like that. Scary, huh? ;)

Lilac is one of my favorite flowers...the smell is out of this world.

the crabapple trees! we would have birds that would eat the fermenting apples and get "drunk" and fly into our kitchen window. weird memory, but a very clear one. you were adorable, by the way. (and you are still, of course).

You DO need to learn to use your scanner.

What a great glimpse into your childhood. Love the frilly little things girls wore back then.....and I'm dating myself here too. :)

I'm so glad you participated.....such a great post, and such great support.

Today and tomorrow are the big days.....yikes.

Ahh great memories in the 70's. A time when someone always made dinner for me and I didn't realize what a great thing THAT was.

Even your "computer stupid" siter has a scanner and knows how to use it. I set it up with my computer all by myself. GO ME! Love the pic tho. Maybe I should dig some of mine out and see what I find. 'Cept mine of course won't be retro 70's they would be Hoppin' 80's Yeah!

Thanks for the brief life history. Your kids look like you! And, why did I think you grew up in Central Utah--like Price or wherever?

And... I have a scanner, but it is acting up. I had the cutest pic for Halloween pics last night, but I only have it in hard copy and couldn't get the scanner to function properly. It is driving me nuts. In the end, I would have gladly paid $2.50, but had run out of time.

How long were you on last night?

Chat later...

Great story! I love the retro pic, heck I have several just like it, only my Gramma made my clothes. I think the funky dress just barely showing is the bomb though! And boy am I glad I have my own scanner....I refuse to pay someone to charge me that much!

Check out scancafe.com. Each photo scan is .29, and it is loaded onto a CD for free. They scan at 600 dpi. I have software at home so I can do it for free but my scanner is only 200 dpi (dots per inch incase you didn't know.) I'm currently SLOWLY converting all my old photos to digital ones. I love each old photo album that I pitch into the trash.

You?! Mrs. Help everyone learn everything, you? Don't know how to use a scanner? That's funny.

Way cute picture, by the way. Love the red shoes! I honestly have very few memories beyond age 6.

I have to figure out my printer's scanner option too. Let me know when you can teach me! I love lilac - it's hands down my favorite flower.

Thanks for visiting - I love that we're Blogher buds!

Fantastic picture....the carpet and the curtains....wow!!! The dress was adorable though.

I can't imagine having 6 kids by 29...or even just having 6 kids for that matter. Your parents must be fabulous.

Have a great day.

Such a cute picture.

What a sweet little thing you were! And I think we had that same carpeting! But our curtains? They were not as good as yours. And the wallpaper? Oy!

I love that dress. My daughter actually got a hand me down dress when she was little similar to that one. It was blue checked..a popular dorothy of oz look! You are adorable in that shot.
I do remember orange and olive green shag. My mom loved her shag!

Hey you! I see you're still blogging so you must have landed somewhere, but I certainly don't know where. Wanted to call you on your cell tonight but discovered I don't have that number. How is that? Oh yeah, I'm completely unorganized--that's how!

Anyhoo, that picture looks just like I remember your child #2! Amazing.

Andrew was 10 today. Lucas is in all day K.

Call me?

Love ya lots.

My grandparents had those curtains!

I had a pair of shoes very similar to those.

My son has taken two photo albums of my mom's and scanned all the photos. (about 8+years worth)
Figure out how to use your scanner. It comes in quite handy, especially when you need a really embarrassing photo of your cousin.......
